There's no question money makes our ever-growing material world go round as we use it for almost everything in our current daily lives, from paying taxes, utility bills, credit cars debts, mortgage loans to indulging ourselves in shopping sprees and luxury vacations. Contrariwise, we can't really achieve anything without the help of money. But what's really bugging me is the length and extend that people would go to pursue it.
It's extremely understandable if a person is greedy, because we all are. Who in their sane minds would give up the chance to gain a million bucks. Even if that person owns half of the world's wealth, or all of it for that matter, they will never, ever be contented. For some people, the measure of wealth is the front line of their general image. They even tend to see others according to how much money they have. Personally, I have came across many of these kind of people and to be honest, I'm not in the slightest bit impressed or feel envious, and for the record, I'm not saying that because I'm jealous. Yes, they are rich but it's as though all their money is stored in deposits-only banks because even buying something as simple as a slice of cake that costs less than RM7 seem torturous. I know saving is the root to their humongous wealth in the first place but residing in stinginess is not the way to go. Hasn't anyone told them that money is worthless unless it is used? I mean how different are you from the poor if you are unwilling to spend? It's ok to be thrifty but NOT stingy. Pamper yourself once in while after a hard day at work, or treat your family and friends to dinner. The world doesn't need another scrooge.
Our society today overvalues money. They are so blinded by the abundant things it can provide that they unknowingly let slide the little BIG things it can't. To proof my point, I shall list out some comparative examples to show you what money can buy, and what money can't. Money can get you a house, even a mansion but it can never give you a home. Money can buy you medicines and a ton of other medical prescriptions but it can never guarantee you health. Money can buy you free time but lost time are unrecoverable. The lists just go on. Now ask yourself, when is the last time you came home from work in time for dinner? When is the last time you took a day off from work so that you could spend quality time with your children? When is the last time you stop thinking about money and sit back to just enjoy the sunset? When you realise your workplace is starting to feel like your second home, then maybe it's time you hold your horses and take some time out with people from your REAL home. Remind yourself of what is truly important and always know where to draw the lines so that you don't get too caught up in the rat race.
I have always believed that a dollar spent on helping the less fortunate is worth a whole lot more more than a thousand spent on unnecessary designer goods or even millions spent to buy real estates and properties. The feeling you get when you make someone's day with something you take for granted almost everyday is just so wholesome, so fulfilling that not even a owning one of the 20 Reventons in the world, or even a million 24-karat diamond rings can compare. Who knew making someone else happy can make you happier than making yourself happy. So for those out there who haven't experience the joy of giving, you should do it cause it is probably best bargain you'll ever get. Honest!
I feel too many people are making too huge a fuss of money and it's about time someone put things into perspective, not to say that my blog is very influential or anything. Just keep in mind, in a game of chess, the King is undoubtedly important but without the pawns, victory would be precarious. Similarly in life, if you lack love and happiness, even if you had a billion bucks, you will still be on the losing side.
